'Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake' is the Small Faces most successful LP and one of the most iconic albums of all time. For the first time since 1968, the album will be released worldwide (on Nice Records) as a limited edition replica of the 5-panel fold-out round card sleeve from that year, beautifully reproducing the lavish colours of the original on 300-gsm quality card stock. A 4-panel insert reproduces the master tape box on the front with illustrated sleeve notes by Small Faces authority Mark Paytress, while the LP is pressed on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl LP with facsimile Immediate Records labels in a poly-lined inner sleeve, all housed in a protective 350-gsm die-cut sleeve with custom hype-sticker.
The facsimile 1-LP has been cut at half-speed by Henry Rudkins at AIR Studios from Nick Robbins’ 2018 master of the original mono mix, transferred from the only surviving analogue master tape from Trident Studios. Cutting at half-speed has given the mono LP a better dynamic range, more defined and accurate sound with extended low frequency and smooth high frequency response.
'Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake' is the Small Faces most successful LP and one of the most iconic albums of all time. A UK No.1 for 6 weeks, it featured hit singles ‘Lazy Sunday’ and ‘Afterglow Of Your Love’ plus classic tracks ‘Rollin’ Over’ and ‘Song Of A Baker’. The LP added a conceptual twist with side two’s story of ‘Happiness Stan and his quest for the missing half of the moon, narrated by Stanley Unwin.
The album celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018 with 3-LP and 4-disc CD/DVD boxed set editions which quickly sold out in the UK, with very few copies available in America and around the world.
Now for the first time since 1968, 'Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake' will be released worldwide as a limited edition replica of the original 5-panel fold-out round card sleeve on Kenney Jones and manager Nigel Adams’ Nice Records, a new label dedicated to artist-led releases.
'Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake' was originally recorded during 1967 and 1968 with Glyn Johns at Olympic, Trident and Pye studios. The new LP edition includes a lavish replica of the 5-panel fold-out round card sleeve from 1968, with award-winning artwork and design by Nick Tweddell, Mick Swan and Pete Brown plus Gered Mankowitz’s photos, a 4-panel insert reproducing the master tape box on the front plus illustrated sleeve notes by Small Faces authority Mark Paytress, a 180-gram heavyweight vinyl LP with facsimile Immediate Records labels in a poly-lined inner sleeve, housed in a protective 350-gsm die-cut sleeve with custom hype-sticker.
