DUNCAN BROWNE - Jigsaw - Out now on Lansdowne Records

After over ten years in the planning, Lansdowne Records is delighted to announce the LP and CD release of Jigsaw by Duncan Browne.

It contains fourteen melodic and poignant demos he made in search of a record deal between the collapse of Immediate in 1969 and signing to RAK in 1971. They’re taken from acetates owned by his wife, which we have gently cleaned up without trying to pretend they’re audiophile studio masters. None have been publicly heard before, though Duncan did go on to release four (‘Resurrection Joe’, ‘My Only Son’, ‘Cast No Shadow’, ‘My Old Friends’) in finished versions.

The album title is inspired by a remark he made about his songwriting to a journalist in 1972: “It’s as if the songs are written already, and they’re in the air, and I have to be in the right mood to get them. Sometimes the first line I make up will be the last line. It’s like a jigsaw, really…”

The cover image is a close-up of a contact sheet – we were surprised by how good its quality is, especially his jumper (the ghostly effect did not involve AI, honest!). The back cover image was also taken in 1970, somewhere in the English countryside.

The LP comes with a foldout insert containing notes (by Richard Morton Jack) and images. The CD is a digipak with the same content.
